What Our Customers Say
Rated 4.2 out of 5 on TrustpilotWhat Is the DVLA V62 Form?
The V62 form is the official DVLA application for a vehicle registration certificate (V5C). You may need to submit a V62 to DVLA if:
- You bought a vehicle but have not received the V5C
- Your logbook has been lost, stolen, damaged or destroyed
- You need to register as the new keeper of a vehicle
- You need to change vehicle details but do not have the V5C
The V62 is a paper form and cannot be submitted directly to DVLA online. Normally, you would need to download and print the form, or collect it from the Post Office, complete it and post it to DVLA with the £25 fee, where required. With CarForms, you complete your details online, and we prepare, print and post the V62 to DVLA for you.

When Do You Need a V62 Form?
You may need form V62 if your V5C has been lost, stolen, damaged or destroyed and you cannot use DVLA’s online replacement service.
You can also use a V62 if you bought a vehicle but have not received the V5C. Without a V5C, you can't prove registered keeper status, which matters for tax, insurance and when eventually selling the car on. If you bought the vehicle from a previous keeper or motor trader, DVLA says to allow four weeks from the date of purchase before applying with a V62.
If you need to change vehicle details but do not have the V5C, you may also need to apply by post using form V62.
The DVLA fee for a V62 is normally £25, although there are exceptions. CarForms charges £49.95 all-in, including the £25 DVLA fee, form preparation, printing and postage.
What Do You Need to Complete a V62?
The information you need depends on why you are applying, but the V62 asks for details including:
- The vehicle registration number
- The vehicle make and model
- Your name and current UK address
- The VIN/chassis or frame number
- The date you acquired the vehicle, if you are a new keeper
- The previous keeper’s name and address, where known
The form also asks why you do not have a V5C and whether you have previously had a V5C for the vehicle in your name.
If you bought the vehicle and have the green new keeper slip from the most recent V5C, include it with your application. New keepers who enclose the green new keeper slip do not have to pay the £25 DVLA fee.
If you have recently bought a vehicle but have not received the V5C, DVLA says to allow four weeks from the date you bought it before using form V62.
What Happens After Your V62 is Posted to DVLA?
DVLA will process the application and, if everything is in order, send the V5C to the address on your application.
If you apply for a V5C by post, GOV.UK says you’ll usually receive it within four weeks. Contact DVLA if it has not arrived after four weeks.
There is no fast-track V62 service, and using CarForms does not give your application priority with DVLA. Our service covers preparing, printing and posting your application; DVLA remains responsible for processing it and issuing the V5C.
If you recently bought the vehicle and have the green new keeper slip, you can use the 12-digit reference number on it to tax the vehicle while you wait for the new V5C.
